MESA, Ariz. — The body of a swimmer was pulled from the water of the Salt River near Stewart Mountain Dam during Memorial Day weekend, officials say.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded on May 25 at about 10:30 a.m. to reports of a swimmer struggling in the water about half a mile downstream from the dam, which is located at Saguaro Lake.

Witnesses told MCSO the man was swimming across the river and began to struggle in the water at the river’s middle point. Deputies searched the river and the body of 23-year-old Jason Blake Jr. was recovered from the water.

MCSO also reported pulling the body of a 22-year-old man from the Salt River on May 24.
