WASHINGTON — With the World Cup just weeks away, the United States Postal Service is celebrating soccer with a new forever stamp.
The mail agency unveiled the North American Soccer Forever stamp at the 2026 Boston World Exposition. The stamp comes as the U.S. prepares to co-host soccer’s biggest tournament with Mexico and Canada on June 11.
It’s the first World Cup to be jointly hosted by three countries and the first to feature 48 teams.
“America is celebrating its 250th birthday this year. And if that weren’t enough, the FIFA World Cup kicks off in just two weeks, with the United States, Canada and Mexico co-hosting the matches,” USPS Chief Technology Officer Gary Reblin said in a statement. “Boston itself will host seven World Cup matches. You can really feel the anticipation here, there’s lots of excitement in the air.”
The U.S. is set to host 78 matches across 11 host cities, including the final match in New Jersey on July 19.
Art Director for USPS Antonio Alcala designed the stamp, having personal ties to the sport as his daughter played soccer from age 4 through college. The stamp features a soccer player striking the ball in midair with the famous “goooooooooal” call that’s heard in all soccer matches and playgrounds across the world.
The famous “gooooooooal” call was started by announcers in Latin America before being popularized by Andrés Cantor during the 1990 World Cup.
The stamp also honors soccer’s history with the U.S.
“Early games involving kicking a ball were played by Native Americans before the arrival of European settlers,” USPS explains in its announcement. “By the early 19th century, games combining elements of soccer, football and rugby were played casually, with rules changing frequently.”
How much is the soccer forever stamp?
The forever stamp will be equal to the value of a First-Class Mail 1-ounce price, which is $0.78.
