MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Crews are working to put out the Horseshoe Fire, which started Thursday on the west side of the Verde River northeast of the Valley.

Originally reported as 300 acres, the fire size was adjusted to 250 acres following better mapping.

Air attack units, including a helicopter and an air tanker, were called in to help with the firefight.

There have been no evacuation orders thus far, but forest officials tell 12News they are working to protect K. Ranch, Horseshoe Dam, utility infrastructure and natural resources in the riparian corridor.

Forest Road 205 is closed in the area of Horseshoe Lake. Horseshoe Dam Road and several OHV trails in the area will be closed due to firefighting activity.
