According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a failed power transfer unit could result in a loss of drive power or a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

In total, 61,711 Jeep Cherokees sold between 2019 and 2023 are being recalled.

A remedy to fix the issue is currently being developed, and owners will be notified by a letter when that becomes available.
