It will cost the city around half a million dollars.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>VMAT technology plays a critical role in enhancing both safety and operational coordination on the airfield, according to city officials. By allowing air traffic controllers to communicate directly with ground vehicle operators, VMATs improve the effectiveness of airfield inspections, emergency responses and maintenance activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This real-time communication capability ensures that vehicles can be guided precisely and safely within active movement areas, the city said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>PHX has long been a leader in adopting this technology. The airport was among the first in the nation to pilot VMAT systems and currently operates five units installed on vehicles that frequently access movement areas, according to the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The addition of 85 new units marks a significant expansion of this program.
