It works by blocking viral replication before symptoms develop, according to drug maker Shionogi.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The preventative treatment reduced the risk of developing symptomatic COVID-19 by 67% during the drug trials when compared against a placebo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Common side effects include headache, diarrhea and cough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>COVID-19, or coronavirus disease 2019, is an illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
