PHOENIX \u2014 A new city ordinance goes into effect on June 5, changing who can provide medical care and distribute food in Phoenix parks.<\/p>\n

The Phoenix City Council voted to approve the new restrictions last month following a long public meeting that included more than six hours of public comment.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The policy shift stems from growing safety concerns raised by residents and families. This comes after a child told city leaders he continues to see dangerous objects at the playground.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

“When I went down the slide and got hurt with the needle, I was bleeding,” a child told city leaders in May. “My mom had to take me to the hospital. It’s not safe, and we need more clean and safer parks.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Driven by these safety concerns, the city is officially banning needle exchanges and open wound treatments in all city parks. Under the newly enacted ordinance, individuals and organizations must adhere to strict guidelines:<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
