PHOENIX \u2014 Residents near the Jones Fire, southeast of Wickenburg, have been placed on a ‘GO’ status, according to the Maricopa Department of Emergency Management.<\/p>\n

The department estimates the fire is about 73 acres and 0% contained. Fire crews stopped forward progress as of Monday evening<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Tiffany Davila with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management told 12News that the department believes several structures were destroyed in the fire; preliminary information indicates that about eight RVs were damaged from the flames.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The department is unable to tell this early how many structures were affected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Video from Sky12 showed several structures, some appearing to be RVs, on fire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The area placed on ‘GO’ status is from US 93 to Zabel Mine Railroad and US 60. Those nearby have been asked to evacuate immediately.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Wickenburg High School, 1090 South Vulture Mine Road.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

“All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge and made possible by the generosity of the public,” said the Red Cross.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Red Cross suggests those evacuating bring all medications needed, food for those with special dietary needs, extra clothing, hygiene supplies, and chargers for devices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The right lanes of US 60 are closed in both directions between mileposts 111 and 112. The rest of the roadway from Wickenburg to Morristown is mostly reopened as of early evening on Monday, ADOT said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

US 60 eastbound is closed near Wickenburg, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The eastbound closure is in effect at milepost 111.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

APS has shut off power in the area of the fire due to damaged electrical equipment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the Jones Fire started in a river bottom southeast of Wickenburg. The fire is now burning along both sides of the highway and in the river bottom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

ADOT said they do not have an estimated time for when the highway will reopen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Residents in wildfire-prone areas are urged to have an emergency supplies kit to bring with them of they are evacuated from their homes, especially as Arizona residents are beginning to see early widespread fire activity throughout the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

An emergency supply kit should be put together long before a wildfire or another disaster occurs. Make sure to keep it easily accessible so you can take it with you when you have to evacuate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that residents near a disaster store emergency supplies in a plastic tub, small suitcase, trash can, backpack, or other containers. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Residents should make sure they have the necessities, such as three gallons of water per person and a three-day supply of ready-to-eat food, the NFPA said. A first-aid kit, prescription medications, contact lenses, and non-prescription drugs should also be taken into account. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Copies of any important family documents, including insurance policies, identification, bank account records, and emergency contact numbers should also be taken and put into a waterproof, portable container in your kit, the NFPA said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
