BUCKEYE, Ariz. — A grand jury has formally indicted an 18-year-old man for three counts of first-degree murder for a Buckeye shooting that killed the defendant’s pregnant ex-girlfriend and wounded two others.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Michael Sanchez has been charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault for the May 14 shooting outside a home near Miller and Lower Buckeye roads. Rylee Montgomery, 16, was killed in the shooting.

Montgomery’s friends, a pregnant 17-year-old and a 22-year-old woman, sustained critical injuries in the shooting. The 17-year-old’s baby was delivered through emergency surgery and did not survive, officials said.

The three murder counts against Sanchez are for Montgomery and the two babies. 

Montgomery’s family told 12News that Sanchez was the father of Montgomery’s unborn baby.

Sanchez is being held without bond.
