SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Actor and race car driver Frankie Muniz is calling out the City of Scottsdale over what he says has been a years-long struggle to obtain a permit for a small backyard project.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, Muniz said he has been trying to get approval for a permit related to a “tiny BBQ area” at his home for more than three years.
The post quickly drew attention online and prompted a response from Scottsdale City Councilmember Barry Graham.
“Frankie. Scottsdale Councilman here. First I’ve heard of this, please email the issue to me: [email protected],” Graham replied on X.
It is unclear what specific permit issues Muniz has encountered or where the application currently stands. The exchange has sparked discussion online about permitting processes and delays for residential projects.
According to the City of Scottsdale website, all construction work, ranging from residential improvements to large development projects, requires a permit. Residents are required to complete an application through the planning and permitting portal to apply.
The City of Scottsdale has not publicly commented further on the matter. 12News has also reached out to Muniz’s management team for comment.
