PHOENIX — An 18-year-old drowned at Canyon Lake Friday afternoon, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Lake patrol responded to a drowning call at around 12:45 p.m. near the Boulder Picnic recreation site at the lake. 

According to authorities, the man was attempting to swim across a cove and began to struggle. 

The sheriff’s office said people nearby attempted to save him, but were not successful. A dive team later recovered the man’s body.

The man has been identified by MCSO and family as 18-year-old Jaysyn Robles. Robles was a senior at Imagine Coolidge Prep and was set to graduate on May 20. 

His family told 12News in a statement that the senior “had a smile that could brighten any room and brought so much light to the people who knew him.”

MCSO said there were no signs of foul play in Robles’ death.
