WASHINGTON — A Los Angeles County judge has granted a temporary restraining order to pop star Sabrina Carpenter against a man who allegedly stalked her and attempted to enter her home in the Hollywood Hills, according to multiple outlets.

According to reporting from NBC News, the BBC and other outlets, Monday’s order prohibits 31-year-old William Applegate from coming within 100 yards of Carpenter as well as her sister, Sarah Carpenter, and her sister’s partner, who also reside at the star’s home.
Carpenter filed for a civil harassment restraining order in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday, alleging that Applegate’s behavior escalated over several weeks and culminated in an attempt to force open her front door on May 23.
In a declaration submitted to the court, Carpenter reportedly said she has experienced “severe and ongoing emotional distress” as a result of what she described as a pattern of illegal behavior.
“His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress, and I am in fear of what he may do if he is not restrained by this Court,” Carpenter wrote.
According to court documents, Carpenter alleges Applegate appeared at her home multiple times beginning around April 20. She said he repeatedly arrived uninvited, claimed to know her personally and insisted she was expecting him.
During the May 23 incident, Carpenter alleged Applegate entered a neighboring property before making his way to her front door, where he attempted to open it, rang the doorbell and refused to leave until police arrived.
“(He) fabricated the outrageous and entirely false claim that he personally knew me and that I was expecting him,” Carpenter wrote. “This was a complete lie.”

Alongside the request, Carpenter’s legal team submitted a declaration from a Los Angeles police detective supporting the restraining order. The detective wrote that Applegate allegedly struck a security guard who confronted him outside the home.
Images captured by a Ring security camera reportedly show a man, identified in the court filing as Applegate, standing at Carpenter’s front door and being approached by a security guard carrying a flashlight.
Carpenter alleged that Applegate returned less than 24 hours after the May 23 incident and remained outside her residence for several hours. She said he returned the following day and parked outside the property.
The singer described the alleged attempted break-in as “among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy” she has ever experienced.
Carpenter, 27, has become one of the most successful pop artists in the world over the past year, performing major hits including “Espresso” and “Manchild” at Coachella and other major venues.
It is unclear whether Applegate will face criminal charges in connection with the May 23 incident, but the detective’s statement confirmed that the police department had submitted a criminal case for trespassing and other charges to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to determine whether to file charges.
