PEORIA, Ariz. — The City of Peoria is introducing a new fee in an attempt to get residents to stop requesting for trash be picked up after their scheduled service time.

During the Peoria City Council meeting on June 2, the city’s leaders approved a new $50 fee for trash “go-backs,” or returns trips for the city’s sanitation trucks.
If a resident does not place their trash or recycling containers out at their designated service time and a sanitation truck then has to return to the residence outside its designated service time, then the residence will be subject to the new fee if there’s evidence to prove the container had not been put out.
The city estimates receiving about 1,500 “go-back” requests annually, creating additional costs for Peoria.
The $50 fee is expected to generate about $80,000 in revenue each year for the city.
City officials emphasized how the new fee won’t affect regular weekly trash service for residents.
