Around 3 a.m., crews were called to the crash along the southbound Loop 101 at Ray Road.
“A bystander, Jesus Damacio, who was commuting northbound on the L-101 to work, reported that he observed the tow truck driver on fire as he exited the fully engulfed vehicle. Damacio called 911, then pulled over to the side of the road and ran to the scene to render aid,” according to KNN.
Although the man helped the driver get out, the effort wasn’t enough. The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died, DPS said.
DPS is investigating how this crash happened and is working to get additional details.
