The district said the bus was carrying summer school students at Santa Fe Elementary School back to Alta Loma Elementary on June 3 when a railroad crossing gate arm struck the bus.

In a letter to Alta Loma parents, the district said no injuries were reported. The school bus returned to the school safely.

“The noise of the arm hitting the metal bus was loud and some students were visibly upset when they returned to campus,” the district said. “While everyone was safe, you may want to have a discussion with your child to help them process how they are feeling.”

The district’s transportation team is following safety protocol and investigating the incident, officials said. The driver is on administrative leave.

The Peoria Police Department told 12News that they didn’t respond to this call and no officers issued citations.
