This effort addresses a need many in law enforcement have seen firsthand. As a former 911 dispatcher, I often took calls from residents asking where they could safely meet to exchange children or complete transactions. In many cases, callers were looking for reassurance and a neutral location to avoid potential conflict. A clearly designated, monitored space like this provides immediate guidance and a safer option.

The designated area is located in the parking lot outside the Surprise Police Department at 14250 W. Statler Plaza. Clearly marked with “Safe Exchange Zone” signage, the site is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is monitored by continuous video surveillance.

Police say the zone can be used for a variety of lawful exchanges, including child custody visits and other person-to-person meetups. The goal is to provide a well-lit, convenient environment where people can meet with added peace of mind.

This adds a layer of safety and security for what can sometimes be sensitive situations.

For more information, residents can contact the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000.
