MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Crews are working to put out the Horseshoe Fire, which started Thursday on the west side of the Verde River northeast of the Valley.

Originally reported as 300 acres, the fire size was adjusted to 250 acres following better mapping.

As of May 8, the fire is 0% contained. Crews are continuing to focus on minimizing further spread and protecting private property.

Air attack units, including a helicopter and an air tanker, were called in to help with the firefight and 100,000 gallons of water were delivered on May 7 to assist efforts on the ground.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There have been no evacuation orders thus far, but forest officials tell 12News they are working to protect K. Ranch, Horseshoe Dam, utility infrastructure and natural resources in the riparian corridor.

Forest Road 205 is closed in the area of Horseshoe Lake. Horseshoe Dam Road and several OHV trails in the area will be closed due to firefighting activity.
