MESA, Ariz. — A fire in a Mesa backyard spread to a home before firefighters were able to get it under control Friday afternoon.

Crews were called to the area of Broadway and Alma School roads shortly after 2 p.m. on May 15 for reports of smoke, according to the Mesa Fire Department. 

When they arrived, crews found a fire in the backyard of a home that had spread to the attic.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to neighboring yards. 

Utility lines in the area were impacted and the utility company is working to address that hazard.
