PEORIA, Ariz. — Amkor Technology is expanding its future semiconductor campus in Peoria, growing the project footprint from 104 acres to 171 acres. It comes as city leaders continue pushing to make the West Valley a major hub for Arizona’s growing chip industry.

The Peoria City Council approved an additional land purchase agreement earlier this month, allowing Amkor to acquire the 67 additional acres adjacent to its existing property inside the Peoria Innovation Core.

The semiconductor packaging and testing company is building a $7 billion advanced manufacturing campus that city leaders say could bring as many as 3,000 high-quality jobs to the Valley. Once complete, the campus is expected to feature more than 750,000 square feet of cleanroom manufacturing space across two phases.

According to Amkor, the facility is expected to become the first U.S.-based high-volume advanced semiconductor packaging and testing facility of its kind. The company says the campus will help prepare semiconductor chips used in products like phones, vehicles, and computers. Amkor also said the site will help support major customers, including Apple and NVIDIA.

The project marks the first major development inside the Peoria Innovation Core, a long-term economic development initiative designed to bring more businesses and employment opportunities to the West Valley.

The city approved a partnership with the Arizona State Land Department in late 2024, allowing Peoria to lead planning efforts across more than 7,000 acres of undeveloped State Trust land near the Loop 303 corridor between Lone Mountain Parkway and State Route 74. Peoria leaders say the goal is to create a long-term employment center that brings more jobs closer to where residents live.

Peoria Economic Development Services Director Maria Laughner previously told KJZZ the city plans to prioritize developments that create jobs.

“We will work with developers and businesses that want to come in, as long as they are trying to bring in users, or they are themselves users that will create a minimum of 10 jobs per acre,” Laughner said.

The current Peoria Innovation Core location for the Amkor campus received city approval in August of 2025, with a groundbreaking in October of 2025. Construction on the first manufacturing facility is expected to finish in mid 2027, according to the company, with production projected to begin in early 2028.

Although Amkor is new to Peoria, it joins Arizona’s growing semiconductor industry footprint, alongside major operations including TSMC in north Phoenix and Intel in Chandler.
