Starting May 29, Tempe officers will be seen on the national television series “On Patrol: Live,” which features cameras following various law enforcement agencies across the country. The show is a mix of pre-taped segments and live footage.

“People often see police work through headlines or brief moments in a crisis,” Tempe Police Chief Ken McCoy said in a statement. “‘On Patrol: Live’ allows us to share a broader picture of our officers, our values, and the many ways we serve and connect with the community.”

According to the show’s website, police departments appearing on “On Patrol: Live” are not given editorial control over what airs on television and the show’s producers ultimately decide what is broadcast.

“ON PATROL: LIVE cameras are present only to document the actions of law enforcement officers and in no way interfere with or direct the officers’ conduct or public interactions,” the show’s website states.

The show airs on the Reelz network on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Tempe police would not be the first local law enforcement agency to appear on television show of this type. A few years ago, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office appeared on the series “Live PD” and the agency recently appeared in the Netflix show “Unlocked: A Jail Experiment.”
