Liberty High School announced Wednesday the death of Tyler Hussey, who had spent years enduring an aggressive form of cancer.
“Coach Hussey was, above all, a good human being. He cared deeply about people and consistently put others before himself,” school officials wrote in a statement. “Whether in the classroom or on the field, he showed up each day with kindness, humility, and a genuine desire to serve and support those around him.”
The school noted how Hussey’s impact on students was “immeasurable” and his loss will be felt throughout the campus.
The Peoria school community had showed its support for Hussey during his health struggles back in 2024 when Liberty students and staff members agreed to shave their heads as part of an effort to raise money for cancer patients.
The school’s grief support services will be available for any Liberty students needing help in processing Hussey’s death.
