PHOENIX — Phoenix police said a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Valley Metro bus at Van Buren Street and 59th Avenue by the Loop 202 Frontage Road Thursday morning.

Officers responded to the intersection for a reported collision involving a pedestrian and a bus about 5 a.m., according to officials.
Police said an woman was found pinned beneath the front of the bus and died at the scene.
The female driver of the bus stayed on scene and was the only person on the bus, officers said. The driver did not show signs of impairment.
Authorities said there were no other injuries reported. Detectives are working to identify the deceased woman.
Preliminary information indicates the pedestrian was using a crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when she was struck by the bus.
Phoenix police said there doesn’t appear to be any criminal intent involved in this incident.
