PEORIA, Ariz. — A person is dead after police responded to reports of a stabbing and shooting early Monday morning near a Peoria neighborhood.

A significant police presence could be seen in the area of 123rd Avenue and Hummingbird Terrace after reports of a shooting and stabbing near a residential area on June 1.
12News footage shows a street had been blocked off with police tape and several evidence markers have been placed on the ground.
Witnesses told police they reported hearing two men argue before shots were fired. The suspect stood over the male victim and began assaulting him with a sharp instrument.

The suspect got into a vehicle, drove past the victim, stopped and exited the car to walk back and fired more shots at the victim before fleeing, police officials said.
Peoria police said the victim died after sustaining stab and gunshot wounds. A description of the suspect and a vehicle was sent out by law enforcement and officials near Payson located a car matching that description. Police said the suspect was located and was injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
Police said the motive for the attack is not clear and the investigation is ongoing.
