It was about 2 a.m. on June 4, 2022, when Rachel Hansen called 911 to report that she had been shot by an intruder in her apartment near San Tan Village Parkway and Ray Road.

Rachel was transported to a local hospital, where she died.

“Just the way she died made no sense to anybody, and we just can’t understand it because she was so young and full of life and had so much life ahead of her,” said Kim Hansen, Rachel’s mother, to 12News in July of the same year.

Since then, her family has been looking for answers.

“In the four years since her death, her parents, Kim and Todd Hansen, say they have received no medical examiner’s report, no resolution of the case, and no justice for their beloved daughter,” says a release calling for a press conference to urge people with information to come forward.

“Someone knows something. This was not a random act. Her apartment was on the third floor, in the corner. It’s not one somebody would just break into randomly. For a crime that significant, somebody else knows what happened and why. We are asking them to please, please, come forward. I made a promise to my daughter that we would not give up, and we won’t,” Kim Hansen said.

The family will hold a conference on the fourth anniversary of her death to share memories about Rachel and to continue to bring attention to Rachel’s murder in an attempt to seek for new leads and hopefully find the person responsible for Rachel’s homicide.

“Rachel was nineteen years old. She was a horse whisperer, a go-getter, a girl who graduated high school at sixteen and was just getting started building her life,” said Rachel’s mother.
