PHOENIX — FedEx is planning to shut down a facility in the Phoenix area and reduce its workforce by about 100 employees.

A WARN notice filed on June 2 by the Federal Express Corporation shows the layoffs would affect a FedEx facility near 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road, which is expected to close its doors in early August.

A spokesperson for FedEx said the workers of this facility were warned months ago about changes that were happening.

“These decisions are never taken lightly and reflect our commitment to supporting affected employees – through job placement assistance, relocation aid, or severance, as applicable – while transforming our network and continuing to provide an outstanding experience for our customers,” the FedEx spokesperson wrote in a statement.

Customers can continue dropping off packages at the 43rd Avenue site through a FedEx Office store that opens there, the spokesperson added.

For the past few years, FedEx has been undergoing the “Network 2.0” initiative to improve its operations and how FedEx delivers packages across the country.

FedEx has been making layoff announcements in other states over the past few months.

In April, FedEx issued a WARN notice in New York for dozens of layoffs at a facility in Menands, according to the Times Union newspaper.
