Firefighters say the puppy had been stuck for an extended period in the heat and was in poor condition when crews arrived. After assessing the situation, Engine 301 determined specialized extrication equipment was needed and called in additional support, officials said.
Crews from Engine 301, Engine 302 and Ladder 332 worked together to carefully remove the puppy from the rim. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the puppy was safely freed.
Officials say the incident highlights both the problem-solving skills of first responders and the teamwork between neighboring departments, including Surprise Firefighters and AZ Fire Medical.
