The freeway-to-freeway project in the West Valley will involve various construction improvements and is estimated to cost at least $192 million. Work is expected to begin during the weekend of May 15.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said the southbound lanes of the Loop 101 between Indian School Road and I-10 will be closed this weekend to allow for work to begin. The closure starts Friday at 9 p.m. and ends Monday at 5 a.m.

Project improvements will include a new HOV ramp within the existing interchange, widening both freeways and an extension of the southbound Loop 101 off-ramp at McDowell Road.

The project is being funded through the Prop. 400 half-cent sales tax that’s dedicated to transportation improvements throughout the Valley. The interchange project is estimated to take three years to complete, ADOT said.
