PHOENIX — A person is dead after a crash on Sunday morning, the Phoenix Police Department said.
According to police, officers responded to a call around 1:22 a.m. near 12th Street and Bell Road for reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Once they arrived on scene, emergency crews found an SUV and a sedan with major damage. An 18-year-old was driving the SUV and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Phoenix Fire personnel took the 22-year-old driver of the sedan to the hospital, but he did not survive.
Police said the SUV was traveling westbound on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the sedan traveling southbound on 12th Street.
Initial information suggests speed and impairment were contributing factors. Authorities also said impairment was associated with the 18‑year‑old driver, who remains hospitalized.
Officials said charges will be determined once the investigation is complete.
