The crash involved two cars, a minivan and a box truck at 67th Avenue and Utopia Road. One person inside one of the cars is dead, the Glendale Fire Department said.
The Glendale Police Department said an SUV driven by an elderly woman made an unsafe lane change at 67th Avenue and Utopia Road in the southbound lanes. The lane change caused a “side swipe impact” on a second vehicle, which then caused a second side swipe impact with a larger box truck.
The box truck lost control and crossed through the intersection into the opposite lanes of travel, where it hit two other vehicles.
The driver of a sedan, which was hit by the box truck, was declared dead at the scene. The drivers of the other two involved vehicles were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another crash happened in the same area, Glendale police told 12News, involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.
