PEORIA, Ariz. — A 23-year-old man is in custody after a deadly shooting Thursday morning at a home in Peoria.

Police say officers responded around 9:30 a.m. to a residence near 91st Avenue and Beardsley Road after reports of a shooting with an injured person.
When officers arrived, they contacted multiple people inside the home. Investigators say the suspect came out armed and appeared to be in crisis, but officers were able to de-escalate the situation and take him into custody without further incident.
Inside the home, officers found a woman dead. She was later identified as 22-year-old Justice Parton. Detectives say the victim and suspect are cousins.
Two other people were inside the home at the time but were not hurt.
Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Nickolas I. Benson. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder

Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
