MARANA, Ariz. — Nicolas Luis Rodriguez pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from an April 1, 2025, crash on Interstate 10 in Marana that injured dozens of people on a school bus.

Rodriguez entered guilty pleas to three counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious physical injury, criminal damage greater than $10,000 and driving while impaired to the slightest degree.

The charges are connected to a collision involving a school bus carrying approximately 40 people, including Kingman Unified School District students.

The crash happened near Tangerine Road and involved an SUV driven by Rodriguez, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Three victims sustained serious injuries, including one student who suffered a left-hand amputation.

25 people were transported to Banner Main while 15 people were taken to Tucson Medical Center.

Rodriguez, a 30-year-old man from Marana, told investigators he smoked marijuana two days before the crash.

He provided a saliva sample that tested positive for THC, and blood samples were collected for laboratory analysis.

Rodriguez appeared in Pima County Superior Court on May 4, 2026, where he entered his guilty pleas.

The court found that Rodriguez knowingly, voluntarily and intelligently entered the pleas and that there was a factual basis for them.

Rodriguez is scheduled for sentencing on June 15, 2026.

He was permitted to remain out of custody until sentencing or until further order of the court.
